THE PERFECT ALIBI by Phillip Morgan is a book that kept me entertained for the most part, but I can't ignore some problems I had with it. As much as I enjoy a legal thriller with an engaging plot, I do want the characters to be well-developed. Robin and the rest of the characters in this book are quite flat. Robin is an ex-MMA fighter and that is the only thing about her that struck me as interesting. Otherwise, she's made no impression on me. Likewise, we have a D.A. who is so stereotypical when it comes to being a bad guy, all that is missing is a black hat. I found the beginning of the storyline to be very entertaining, but then there are some turns taken that made me wonder if this was a serious crime novel or more of a comical take on the genre. Going into too much detail would spoil the plot, but let's just say that Robin could have been a little less naive and asked more questions of different characters. That being said, this was an easy and quick read. There is an earlier book that features Robin Lockwood, so I would recommend THE PERFECT ALIBI to readers already familiar with the series.
