Clare Carlson started out as a reporter for a New York newspaper. Clare's first assignment was on a story about a young girl, Lucy, who went missing. Clare had no idea that this story would hit her so hard. Now Clare has worked her way up to being the news director for Channel 10 news. Because of her story on Lucy, Clare won a Pulitzer Prize. Now on the 10 year anniversary of the story, they are thinking about doing an update. Clare feels that there is no reason to bring this up again, until Lucy's mother Anne gets in contact with her, claiming she has new information. The other reason Anne is dying and would like to know what happened to her daughter.

Clare has never gotten over this story and really doesn't want to bring up all the bad memories. Clare's friend Anne shows her an email she received from someone telling her Lucy is still alive and was taken by a motorcycle gang. Clare decides to do the new story and starts investigating new leads. Clare does find out that a man, Elliott, who is running for office, might be involved in this. It seems that he was in a gang when he was younger and now has raised himself up from cop to political office. Why would he be involved in this and why is he hiding it?

Though all of this, Clare has several secrets she has been hiding from everyone. Bringing up this story is going to bring all of her secrets out. Can Clare really handle her past now becoming her present?

R.G. Belsky writes a great mystery. YESTERDAY'S NEWS had me from page one till the very last. I had no idea that the two storylines would connect. To me, this shows me Belsky is a great writer. I really enjoyed how he wrote about the way journalists go about getting their information.

Belsky also shows the personal life of a journalist. They are so dedicated to their job, that they really don't have a personal life. I guess this is probably why some of them don't have relationships that work. I am looking forward to more books in the Clare Carlson Mystery series!
