Diana is just as surprised by the fact that she's back at the ducal home of Lindow Castle, but instead of attending balls and tea parties, she's mostly in the nursery with her two charges. She never meant to harm North's reputation as the heir to the dukedom, but she was desperate for a job, and letting everyone believe the innocent child was North's son was her only choice. However, upon North's return, Diana doesn't expect to start caring for the man she almost married two years earlier. North has changed since he left for the war, and isn't the dandy every woman in the ballroom was fighting for. He's straightforward and cautious, but also passionate and empathetic... and North realizes Diana isn't the delicate flower he believed she was. She has ideas, resilience, and will fiercely stand up to anyone who tries to say otherwise.
Living under the same roof proves to be too large of a temptation for North and Diana, and while their stations in life have changed, neither can deny the sparks that fly between them, but society has decided North is too "wilde" to wed, and Diana been all but shut out of her former circles. Will they find a way to be together, even if perhaps the biggest obstacle is that they're actually falling in love?
TOO WILDE TO WED, the second book in Eloisa James' delightful Wildes of Lindow Castle series, continues the trials and tribulations that seem to plague the influential Wilde family. I loved that the devious, yet hilarious, caricature prints that caused problems for North's brother in book one were also spreading gossip here, too. North and Diana are two lovely characters. It was clear from the start that they would work well together, even if they didn't see it right away. I found the plot of this book to drag a little near the middle and end, as though some extra hurdles were thrown in their way when they could have easily concluded to be together earlier in the book. That being said, it was enjoyable to watch North and Diana fall in love, as well as see how Wilde family rallied around them when they needed the extra push to put expectations aside and admit their feelings. Lady Artemisia, North's young sister, and Godfrey, his supposed son, are both scene stealers. Another sexy yet heartwarming romance from Eloisa James!
Book Summary
New York Times Bestselling Author Eloisa James returns with the second in her fun and flirtatious
Wildes of Lindow Castle series…
The handsome, rakish heir to a dukedom, Lord Roland Northbridge Wilde—known to his friends as North—left England two years ago, after being jilted by Miss Diana Belgrave. He returns from war to find that he’s notorious: polite society has ruled him “too wild to wed.”
Diana never meant to tarnish North’s reputation, or his heart, but in her rush to save a helpless child, there was no time to consider the consequences of working as a governess in Lindow Castle. Now everyone has drawn the worst conclusions about the child’s father, and Diana is left with bittersweet regret.
When North makes it clear that he still wants her for his own, scandal or no, Diana has to fight to keep from losing her heart to the man whom she still has no intention of marrying.
Yet North is returning a hardened warrior—and this is one battle he’s determined to win.
He wants Diana, and he’ll risk everything to call her his own.
