Y'all, WIFE FOR THE WEEKEND by Ophelia London was a little odd. It's not that it didn't work, it was just a little jarring at times. Jules is a staunch environmentalist, complete with an intense antipathy towards technology, a firm belief in feng sui, and hyper judgmentalism towards anyone who disagrees with her. She finds office jobs to be just shy of evil and limited personal connections. Dexter is a driven CEO who is poised to take over his family's technology company when he runs into Jules at the Las Vegas Airport. She's his brother's ex-girlfriend and they're both stranded, so he offers to give her a ride home while they wait for their flight.

One thing leads to another and they wake up married. On the back of the influence of a super strong cocktail served at the airport bar. They both decide to run with it, as Dex seems to have texted his entire family their wedding photo, just days shy of his brother's wedding.

Confused yet? Familiar feeling in this book.

You can read a more detailed description below, but I spent a lot of this book with one eyebrow raised. Can you really fool a family that literally never leaves them alone? Would said family really be that comfortable with how explicitly Jules describes their (fictional) sex life? Would anyone like Dex really be okay that Jules is angry with him for literally doing his job? Is someone who is as obsessed with balance in the universe as Jules is really not understand the balance between work and life in someone like Dex? Also, in the end, he's the one who makes all the changes and she makes none. I found her the most frustrating character, so I was annoyed that her behavior was condoned consistently while his condemned. Yes, he worked too hard, but he literally blew off employees who were relying on him because she didn't believe in cell phones in the house? No. I can't truck with that.

And yet, the book was endearing. Despite myself, I was charmed by Dex and his family. I'm not sure I would wholeheartedly recommend this one, but I wouldn't necessarily tell you to steer clear either. It didn't work for me, but I can see WIFE FOR THE WEEKEND by Ophelia London charming others.

Book Summary

When bad weather closes the airport, free-spirited Jules Bloom finds herself stuck with the admittedly hot but total suit Dexter Elliott. One night and one large pitcher of “Vegas Sunrise” later, Jules wakes up in a hotel bed with a vicious hangover…wearing nothing but a wedding ring.

Determined not to ruin his brother's wedding, Dexter strikes a deal with the frustratingly gorgeous Jules to continue their quickie marriage through the weekend. Only she keeps getting under his skin in unexpected ways.

Jules has her own reasons for staying married to Dex but they seem less important with each exaggerated touch and staged kiss. But one marriage, one major secret, and two complete opposites don’t add up to a happily ever after
