WILD THINGS is Book 7.75 in Jennifer Ashley's Shifters Unbound series. Unlike previous books in this series, a lot of the action in WILD THINGS takes place out-of-state and outside a Shiftertown. I like Jennifer Ashley shaking things up a little in this installment. A wolf Shifter and a human psychic woman prove to be a perfect fit and a powerful force as they travel across the country on a mission to save lives.

I was intrigued by Mason in the past, so I'm happy he got his own story. At the opening of WILD THINGS, Mason is a character bombarded by family and one who decides to put his restless energy to good use by tracking down people who can heal his beloved aunt and a feral Shifter in his family. I like Mason in the role of reluctant yet determined hero in WILD THINGS. I think coming from a big family influences Mason's every decision and reaction in this book. Jasmine's life is very different from Mason's in that she is pretty much all alone in the world except for her haunted house. I love how Jennifer Ashley establishes a sense of place in New Orleans. Rather than acting as a typical malevolent force, Jasmine's haunted house is a supporting character and very protective of her.

There are a few threats to Jasmine, Mason, and other Shifters in WILD THINGS, but no super villain. If anything, time is the enemy in WILD THINGS and Jasmine and Mason race to make things right before time runs out. I love a story with a road trip and WILD THINGS has several trips for Jasmine and Mason to get to know each other and bond. I really enjoyed the supernatural elements in WILD THINGS and feel like they really fit the characters and the story.

WILD THINGS is an out-of-this-world mix of werewolves, magic, psychic healing, passion, and a haunted house to top things off. Rather than the traditional hero's journey, WILD THINGS is a heroic couple's journey that has enough romance to balance all the fast-paced action. The mix of old and new characters works well, and is a treat for longtime fans. I look forward to reading the next Shifters book to fuel my paranormal romance addiction.

Book Summary

Wolf Shifter Mason McNaughton is tired of the crazy feral living in his house, endangering him, his brothers, and his sweet auntie Cora. Ferals are Shifters who’ve reverted to the wild stage, forgetting all about the joys of pizza and satellite TV. Not to mention, Mason is sick of waking up to the feral’s rampages in the bedroom next to his. The feral has been given sanctuary, so Mason can’t throw him out—the only thing to do is to find a way to cure him.

The problem is, Shifter healers—elusive, Goddess-touched Shifters who have the healing gift—are few and far between. Mason volunteers to go in search of one, and is sent to a psychic in New Orleans who might have an idea of where to start looking.

Mason doesn’t believe in psychics, but Jasmine, the psychic in question, seems to at least put on a good show. Jasmine believes in Shifters all right, but she vowed after her Shifter boyfriend dumped her to never have anything to do with them again.

The easiest way to get rid of the growly Lupine, Mason, is to help him, but Jasmine never dreams what that help will drag her into.
