One of the trademarks of any Susanna Kearsley story is her phenomenal ability to depict the setting so vividly you feel as if you are actually there. NAMED OF THE DRAGON features the setting of Angle, located in the Pembrokeshire part of Wales. I absolutely love how Susanna Kearsley paints us a picture of the town, from the shopping trips to the castles, as we see the juxtaposition of past and present in the town so clearly. In fact, it is the setting that makes NAMED OF THE DRAGON work so well. The dream-like ambiance works perfectly as the story unfolds. Susanna Kearsley weaves in Welsh mythology and various poems to craft a tale that is quite enchanting.
Susanna Kearsley also does a marvelous job with character development. The interplay between all of the characters is entertaining, especially as we watch Bridget flit from one man to the next. However, I particularly love how Susanna Kearsley builds the tension between Lyn and Gareth Gwyn Morgan, another writer currently residing in Angle.
NAMED OF THE DRAGON is another beautiful tale from the eloquent pen of Susanna Kearsley. Susanna Kearsley continues to amaze me with her exquisite depictions of the various locales she takes us to and NAMED OF THE DRAGON adds a dream-like quality to the mix. Any tale by Susanna Kearsley is always easily recommended!
Book Summary
A haunting tale of intrigue from New York Times bestselling author Susanna Kearsley.
SOMEWHERE IN THE HEART OF LEGEND LIES THE KEY TO HER TERRIFYING DREAMS
The charm of spending the Christmas holidays in South Wales, with its crumbling castles and ancient myths, seems the perfect distraction from the nightmares that have plagued literary agent Lyn Ravenshaw since the loss of her baby five years ago.
Instead, she meets an emotionally fragile young widow who's convinced that Lyn's recurring dreams have drawn her to Castle Farm for an important purpose--and she's running out of time.
With the help of a reclusive, brooding playwright, Lyn begins to untangle the mystery and is pulled into a world of Celtic legends, dangerous prophecies, and a child destined for greatness.
