Jenna dan Aron, a Shielder with psychic abilities has been shunned by her own people because of her gift of seeing the future. Arion of Saura, a fierce Leor warlord, is more beast than man, who has no place in his life for softness or emotion. Despite his plans he finds himself fighting the protective feelings his human wife brings out in him and buffering her from the barbaric settlement and ways he has brought her too. A war of wills is waged but they find that perhaps love is all that will help them survive.

SHADOW FIRES is an intriguing sci-fi, paranormal story by author Catherine Spangler. I have enjoyed a number of books by Ms. Spangler and enjoyed her eloquent and highly vivid style of writing. As I read I feel as if I am right there with the characters, feeling what they feel, seeing what they see. I thought Jenna to be very gutsy to put herself in the hands of this barbaric race and it takes a lot of strength and perseverance before she can name anyone, but her new husband as friend, and it took awhile for him to see her worth. Arion, I was not sure I liked at all, he was use to being obeyed and couldn't understand why this "human" would question him or his peoples ways. After he began to take the time to try to understand Jenna and with that understanding his attitude softened, he kind of grew on me. Especially when he was willing to give up his life for her, but then she wasn't going to let that happen.

Well you have to read SHADOW FIRES to see how it ends. There are a number of interesting characters that liven this storyline up ... Lani an interesting woman from previous books who likes to stir things up, an android with all the answers and a shaman who wishes he had all the answers. SHADOW FIRES is a fun and fabulous story and can be found on my TRA shelf.
