He asks her to do a sketch of him. That is the beginning of their friendship which grows stronger in the coming years. With Vivi, she believes it is everlasting love; David cherishes her as a close friend, almost like a sister.
When David goes to college, he finds a note from Vivi hidden in his computer bag. "I know I'm too young now but when I'm grown up, I'll find a way to own your heart just the way you'll always own mine." David smiles and writes back to her teasing that by the next time he sees her, she won't remember who he is.
When David's mother is dying of cancer, he discovers his father is cheating on her with a country club member. They argue and his mother makes David promise her he will keep his knowledge secret. It would wreck the family and family is always everything. David agrees, does not forgive his father and leaves for Hong Kong to work in his law offices there. He does not communicate with his siblings or Vivi for almost two years and decides to have a reunion on Block Island with them.
The Block Island reunion is full of surprises. David arrives with Laney, the girl he met in Hong Kong. Viv and Laney are direct opposites. Soon, David becomes physically and sexually aware of Vivi. She is all grown up and does not remind him of his sister any longer. Is she his soul mate?
WORTH THE WAIT is a sweet love story. A story, too, about family ties and redemption. As a romantic I adored the ending after cheering for Vivi from page one. She knew her heart and hung in there. David was worth the wait.
Book Summary
Thirteen years ago, Vivi LeBrun was sketching a rooster and eating Oreos when she first met—and fell for—her friend’s brother, David St. James. Since then, her love for David has only intensified thanks to years of friendship with his family, who rescued her from a lonely, tumultuous childhood. As she travels to Block Island to vacation with the St. James siblings, Vivi daydreams about reuniting with David, hoping he’ll finally see her as his soul mate.
After his mother’s death, David distanced himself from his siblings, determined to hide a devastating family secret. Now, he’s brought a new girlfriend along to his homecoming—one who’s pushing for a serious commitment. The last thing he needs on his growing list of problems is his budding attraction to Vivi.
With tensions running high, David’s behavior triggers a series of events that might cost him the love he’s always taken for granted and Vivi the only real family she’s ever known.
