Raymond White, lawyer and would-be Republican congressional candidate from New York, is moving fast up the career path. Everything is coming up roses for Raymond. He has powerful friends, a lovely girlfriend and a plan for the future, until he's arrested at the Republican convention for the murder of Celeste Oliver. In shock and numb, Raymond goes through the trial confident he'll be acquitted and wondering who actually killed Celeste. It isn't until much later he discovers the question he should be asking is who framed him for her murder.

Once in Auburn prison, Raymond does everything he can to survive and spends the first 20 years of his life sentence in solitary confinement convinced he's safer by himself than with the other inmates. During the one-hour recreation Raymond has, he meets Lester, an aging thief and part-time murderer. Lester convinces Raymond that he can survive in the regular inmate community if he's prepared to defend himself and exact revenge at least tenfold for any infraction against him. Raymond is transferred out of solitary, becomes cellmates with Lester and together they plot their escape from Auburn. After years of preparing for the big escape, Raymond and Lester dig through sewer pipes and end up successfully escaping the prison. However, in their attempt, Lester is killed and, to all at the prison, Raymond is presumed dead, as well. Using money that Lester had stashed away, Raymond is able to change his appearance, create a new life and begin to plan the revenge of those who wronged him before prison.

EXACT REVENGE is a taut and suspenseful journey into the inner sanctum of prison life, the backrooms of political decision makers and the allure of power and corruption in the mob. Raymond is shaped by the experiences he has with each of the arenas of power and becomes a man driven to personally exact pain on each person who contributed to his imprisonment. Green is painstaking in his plot details, so much so that you feel you are actually walking next to Raymond as he exacts his revenge. In the end, you might wonder if Raymond feels vindicated through his actions or simply jaded with life in general. Take a chance and read this novel to find out. It's well worth it.
