Abra doesn't feel like she belongs in the town of Haven. Abandoned by her mother at birth, Abra wants only to be loved and yet she continues to feel left out. Pastor Zeke, his wife Marianne, and their son Joshua have tried to embrace her as have Priscilla, Peter, and Penny, but Abra continues to seek acceptance elsewhere. Will Abra, later known as actress Lena Scott, learn to trust in God's love? Or will she continue her roller coaster journey through life?
BRIDGE TO HAVEN is a story of love and forgiveness inspired by the Bible story depicted in Ezekiel 16. In many ways, BRIDGE TO HAVEN reads like a historical women's fiction tale as the story is gut-wrenchingly realistic at times. The choices made by some of the characters, regardless of faith, are all too human at times and I had to stop myself from yelling at them about what damage they were unintentionally doing. Francine Rivers doesn't hesitate to tackle some very sensitive issues and the outcomes are often initially devastating to the characters.
BRIDGE TO HAVEN is not an easy read but instead is quite unsettling and thought-provoking. Abra's painful journey to find the true meaning of love is a difficult and emotional one as Abra learns that love is more than just pretty words and a temporary feeling. I love how Francine Rivers brings the book back full circle as Francine Rivers shows once again why she is a must-read author in Christian fiction.
Book Summary
To those who matter in 1950s Hollywood, Lena Scott is the hottest rising star to hit the silver screen since Marilyn Monroe. Few know her real name is Abra. Even fewer know the price she's paid to finally feel like she's somebody.
To Pastor Ezekiel Freeman, Abra will always be the little girl who stole his heart the night he found her, a wailing newborn abandoned under a bridge on the outskirts of Haven. Zeke and his son, Joshua-Abra'sa closest friend-watch her grow into an exotic beauty. But Zeke knows the circumstances surrounding her birth etched scars deep in her heart, scars that leave her vulnerable to a fast-talking bad boy who proclaims his love and lures her to Tinseltown. Hollywood feels like a million miles from Haven, and naive Abra quickly learns what's expected of an ambitious girl with stars in her eyes. But fame comes at an awful price. She has burned every bridge to get exactly what she thought she wanted. Now, all she wants is a way back home.
In this riveting and highly anticipated tale of temptation, grace, and unconditional love, New York Times best-selling author Francine Rivers delivers big-canvas storytelling at its very best.
