CINDERELLA SCREWED ME OVER by Cindi Madsen is a delightfully classy and witty story perfect for fans of romantic comedies. Throughout the novel, Darby talks about her case studies of her relationships and links them up to particular fairy tales. While many of them are laugh out loud funny, there are balanced by some serious ones that help you understand what Darby is going through, and she becomes an amazingly relatable character. What I love most about them is how clever they are to fit the fairy tale and how entertaining they are to read.
While I really love Darby and her electric personality that strangely mashes a no-nonsense attitude with a kind and fun heart, the beginning felt a little repetitive at times. It seemed for a while that all she talked about was relationships and their doom, and I wanted to see more of her other opinions on things and other aspects of her life. Luckily, the reader does get to see some awesome glances at Darby's work as an interior design later on in the story, which made me want to turn on HGTV.
Overall, you couldn't ask for a better kick your heels off and relax kind of book to lose yourself in. CINDERELLA SCREWED ME OVER is fun, touching, hilarious, and has the perfect level of swoon. Cindi Madsen has a wonderful and distinct voice in her writing, and I can't wait to pick up more of her work.
Book Summary
Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She's sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she's happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she's culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.
Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?
Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp.
