When an attack meant for him occurs on his tour bus, Devin knows that it's his fault and he requires more security, but he doesn't want it to affect his privacy either.

Enter Liberty Masterson, younger sister to Harper and a former soldier. After being honourably discharged from service, Liberty focuses her attention on providing security to those who need it. As protection for Devin's cross- country tour, it puts Liberty in very closer quarters with the rock star.

Liberty has been a character that I enjoyed reading about from the previous books. However, she seemed a bit tougher than I remembered in this one. As she tries to fight her lust for Devin, it puts her into a pricklier mood. At first, I thought she resembled too much of a rock, but as the story goes on, she softens and that is one of the great things about this book. James never shies away from the emotional vulnerabilities of her characters.

When Liberty and Devin first meet, there are a lot of misconceptions and assumptions made about one another. James takes her time as she develops this romance, revealing their pasts and how they have come to be as they are now. It creates for an intimate experience that James is known for.

Of course, no Blacktop Cowboys novel is complete without the mentioning of sex. James has an abundance of erotically- charged scenes in and outside of the bedroom, yet she never forgets to strengthen her stories with character emotions, vulnerabilities and a strong plot. These are the things that keep me up long past my bedtime and have me coming back for more.
