Camille Trent, better known as Green because of her hair colour, is a computer whiz and a hacker; she works at Blaine Technologies, an ultraconservative company, where rules abound. There's even a dress code; everyone dresses mostly in black and white. To put it mildly, Camille stands out in more ways than one. She is the daughter of hippies, she doesn't do rules, and she doesn't do contracts.

The CEO, Nathan Lawford, is called the Iceman by the employees; he has rules for everything. Camille is impulsive, she knows what she wants, and she wants Nate. She wants him to feel, to lose control, to surrender. So Green decides to make the Iceman melt. Nate had noticed Camille as well, for more than her hair.

Although being complete opposites, Camille and Nate are attracted to each other and enter into some sort of relationship, first based on sex. It's not easy to get Nate to open up, but Camille is anything if not persistent. She is also patient and understanding, but definitely not a doormat. Nate might appear cold, but he is not a control freak when it comes to Camille. He needs order and rules but does not try to dominate Camille; it's the only way he knows how to be. Until Camille shows him that things can indeed be different. Underneath it all, they understand each other.

Cynthia Sax is extremely talented. Her prose is direct yet flawless. Her story is well constructed, and her characters well-rounded and totally relatable. The sex scenes are always hot but at the same time tasteful, and there are touches of humour here and there. As far as novellas go, it's a longish one, close to 200 pages, and you get a lot more than sex. BREAKING ALL THE RULES is an erotic novella that manages to be sweet, charming and sexy at the same time. It's for readers who enjoy the genre, and even those who might not usually go for this type of story.

Book Summary
