Ethan is made sheriff of the little town of 461 people and is privy to knowing most of the secrets this place holds. On the outside, it is the perfect town. There's an underbelly to this beast, however, that may just make him wish he had died in that accident. Even though he is reunited to with his wife and son, he still cannot seem to make himself happy in this version of the American Dream. The problem with Paradise is that, a lot of the time, the price is just too big to pay.
WAYWARD is the second book in the Wayward Pines series. It will grab you and won't let you go, much like the little town of Wayward Pines. Even though I read this book first rather than the beginning one, I found it to be very easy to follow although now I must go backwards and read that first book.
WAYWARD is a very difficult book to put down because you simply must keep going to find out what will happen next. The excitement is at a nail biting level that holds you in its thrall. As the ending of WAYWARD is actually a lead-in to the third book in the series, you won't get all of your questions answered, but there are enough cats out of the bag that you won't care that nothing is tied up neatly with a bow. Instead, you will crave having that third book in your hand as fast as possible because there are more horrific adventures awaiting Ethan and the residents of Wayward Pines.
So many times I feel that a book I am reading should be a movie or television series. In this case, I can happily say that Wayward Pines is being made into a series to air later in 2014. I, for one, will be avidly watching but I must have the other two books in this series before then. Once you start getting acquainted with Wayward Pines, you're going to feel the same way.
Book Summary
Welcome to Wayward Pines, population 461. Nestled amidst picture-perfect mountains, the idyllic town is a modern-day Eden...except for the electrified fence and razor wire, snipers scoping everything 24/7, and the relentless surveillance tracking each word and gesture. None of the residents know how they got here. They are told where to work, how to live, and who to marry. Some believe they are dead. Others think they are trapped in an unfathomable experiment. Everyone secretly dreams of leaving, but those who dare face a terrifying surprise.
Ethan Burke has seen the world beyond. He's sheriff, and one of the few who knows the truth. Wayward Pines isn't just a town. And what lies on the other side of the fence is a nightmare beyond anyone's imagining.
