Chris Downey made a promise to his partner Jason Belleno to look after his wife if anything ever happened to him. Chris tried to keep that promise after his death, but Jules pushed him away. When her father comes to his house reporting that she is missing, Chris feels somewhat responsible for failing to keep his promise. He knows that Jules's dad likes his alcohol a bit too much, but he also knows that Jules lives a rather sheltered and ordered life, so he will look into it until she comes back home. As Chris delves deeper into Jules' disappearance, he discovers a shocking revelation that changes everything he believes. Will justice prevail? Will he find Jules before it is too late?

Rene Gutteridge pens an exceptionally nail biting inspirational thriller. She guides us along dark, twisted paths only for us to reach an unacceptable yet undeniable truth. Jules and Chris each have their own demons to conquer mostly stemming from the aftermath of Jason's murder and the fact that each of them lost much more than a mere partner. Jason was their spiritual pillar, the one person whose faith was unshakeable, and with him gone they are wandering alone in the dark searching for a ray of light to lead them to the truth. Ms. Gutteridge holds us a willing captive to her page turning suspense while quickly endearing us to her characters. MISERY LOVES COMPANY strings us along with kidnapping, plunges us to murky depths with murder, and finally releases us with answers. I could not read this story fast enough.
