TIGER MAGIC is the latest in this series about shifters near Austin, Texas, and Tiger is coping with the loss of his wife who was taken from him at gunpoint in Area 51 but died. Now he has found Carly he doesn't want to be separated from her but the restrictions on people from Shiftertown are, understandably from the viewpoint of everyone else, severe. The only shifter Tiger trusts around his potential mate is Connor who, though a young adult, is still a cub in shifter terms, so not a threat. Carly knows little about shifters but when it's clear that she's about to learn more, she draws the interest of outsiders who want her to pass on the information. Are they to be trusted?

I found this book by Jennifer Ashley well written to show the tiger's point of view, how scents are enough to alert him, running away enough to trigger a predator response. He fully expects that the human girl will agree to be his mate and his strength is remarkable. We also meet a wolf, a bear and a lion, and learn that Shiftertown has run out of houses so people have to double up. Tiger is secretly not obeying the rules imposed on his type, so even more is at stake if outsiders learn too much. But Carly is drawn to his magic, to the caring, loving side of the loyal man, and their romance becomes more important to her, even if it leads to peril. I consider the romance believable in the circumstances, and exciting enough to make us all want to pack a bag and head to Austin.
