Portia Maclean has an old book of spells, and she needs money to help her family. When Henry Chattan comes to Glenfinnan looking for a witch, she decides to play the part and get the reward. She soon finds herself caught up in the race to end the curse, in time to save her own true love.
Lyon's Bride is the first book in Cathy Maxell's Chattan Curse series. I haven't read it, but that didn't impede my understanding or enjoyment of THE SCOTTISH WITCH. Maxwell has woven the curse, a mysterious cat, and three love stories into a fast-paced novel of magic and madness. The characters are well-drawn; even the minor characters have their own personalities.
THE SCOTTISH WITCH is quite enjoyable and left me very much looking forward to the third book The Devil's Heart.
