As a long time reader and fan of Richelle Mead, I've learned that there is little that this author can't accomplish. In the third book of the Bloodlines series, Mead displays personal growth in her main protagonist, Sydney Sage. As an Alchemist, Sydney has been taught how to believe and how to behave. However, when her heart begins to tell her otherwise, she undergoes an internal struggle in deciding her own fate. Syndey has always been the intelligent and logical one, but in THE INDIGO SPELL, readers get a chance to see her in more action than ever before. She also loosens up and indulges in some recklessness that feels monumental to someone as previously uptight as her.

The presence of Marcus Finch, a former Alchemist who severed his ties with the group and is now on the run, presents a temptation that lures Sydney in. He persuades her to rebel against the people who raised her, but the logical side of Sydney knows that nothing is quite so simple as that. Meanwhile, there is a threat that is targeting young witches and stealing their youth. It's up to Sydney to stop it before more people die.

In addition to juggling those duties, Sydney has the wonderful distraction in the form of a stylish, green-eyed heartthrob who readers know and love. Their forbidden love is addressed front and center and is possibly the best thing about this book. Mead latches readers by their collars and keeps them riveted until the last page.

The last few chapters of THE INDIGO SPELL really revs up the engine and gives readers that final push. With stellar plot twists and the perfect setup for the next book in the series, The Fiery Heart, Mead has penned a story that is addicting and unstoppable!
