Toni keeps talking about divorcing her husband and Petra is dealing with the ravages of her husband's Alzheimers. Suzanne has a meeting with the local banker on this snowy day with blizzard conditions. She is stunned when he comes speeding up on a snowmobile but even more stunned when he doesn't come in the cafe.

Suzanne finds the man decapitated by some wire hung between two trees. When some of her closest neighbors are suspected of the murder, Suzanne is forced into investigating the death. She hates to think that someone in their small town and someone she knows is capable of such brutality.

Laura Childs writes an intelligent story. Suzanne, Toni, and Petra are very different in personality but have formed a friendship which will sustain them through difficult times. With the local Fire and Ice festival going on and a young man sneaking into her store at night, Suzanne has plenty to divert her attention. Ms. Childs does a fantastic job of imparting the good and the bad of small town living as we follow the adventures of the three women. The identity of the killer is hidden very well keeping the reader actively involved STAKE & EGGS. Fans won't want to miss this latest in the series.
