Early autumn brings forth a burst of color before the earth lies dormant awaiting the rebirth of spring. It's also the time of spirits. Emerald O'Brien, shop owner and psychic, shares a real kinship with this time of year. Not only is her birthday on Halloween, but she has the ability to see and communicate with those within the spirit world. Among her visions is that of Samantha, their missing cat. There seems to be an unspoken message from the cat that Emerald is having difficulty understanding.

Emerald recruits friends both living and in the beyond to help her solve the mystery next door and that of the missing cat. The basement reveals a hidden room with a journal, a photograph and a beautiful mural. Then a grave is located under a tree. Whom do the remains belong to? The answers to the mysteries come from an unlikely source.
