I just finished reading THE ANATOMIST'S WIFE by Anna Lee Huber. and I see it will be a series that I look forward to reading. I was some what left hanging at the end, (but the author did give insight of more to come) and it does make me look forward to the 2nd book. The story is told through Kiera's thoughts and actions of herself and others.

Kiera is the heroine, she lives in her sister and brother- in-law's home. Her sister calls for a house party that will include many member's of the ton. Kiera is not very happy about this upcoming house party. Since her husband died about a year ago, many people in high society have done nothing but point fingers at her, hold nothing back to make her feel uneasy at any party, etc.

Her husband was a famous Anatomist who performed many dissections on the bodies of the dead who had passed on. Kiera who was an extraordinary artist had been duped into marrying her husband. He had plans to use her for a book of drawings he wanted to publish. But after he died, doctors and friends who worked with him, had seen the drawings, they know that her husband could never draw a thing. Those in high society find this to be very shocking and wagging tongues accuse Kiera of outlandish things, for she has done the sketch's of the human body's anatomy.

Kiera tries to hide in the shadows during the party, but when a woman is found dead in her sister's garden, she is asked by her brother-in law to do an investigation with his friend, Sebastian Gage who has experience being an inquiry agent. Gage is the hero of the story and he's one good looking fellow! Gage and Kiera don't hit it off to well at the beginning, but as time passes, they become much more friendly. As Kiera and Gage go forward in trying to find the murderer, many secrets unfold about the guests that are staying at her sister's home. Some are quite funny and others very sad. I truly enjoyed this mystery and look forward to the remaining novels of this series.

THE ANATOMIST'S WIFE is great turn pager which keeps you guessing. I loved it!

Book Summary

Scotland, 1830. Following the death of her husband, Lady Darby has taken refuge at her sister's estate, finding solace in her passion for painting. But when her hosts throw a house party for the cream of London society, Kiera is unable to hide from the ire of those who believe her to be as unnatural as her husband, an anatomist who used her artistic talents to suit his own macabre purposes.

Kiera wants to put her past aside, but when one of the house guests is murdered, her brother-in-law asks her to utilize her knowledge of human anatomy to aid the insufferable Sebastian Gage--a fellow guest with some experience as an inquiry agent. While Gage is clearly more competent than she first assumed, Kiera isn't about to let her guard down as accusations and rumors swirl.

When Kiera and Gage's search leads them to even more gruesome discoveries, a series of disturbing notes urges Lady Darby to give up the inquiry. But Kiera is determined to both protect her family and prove her innocence, even as she risks becoming the next victim...
