Then things go a little pear-shaped. She discovers a requirement for her parole is getting her G.E.D. and she doesn't have much time left to accomplish it. Then one of the bodies she gathers has no scent of brains to her, despite the open skull fracture. When she gets held at gunpoint by a masked man with an interest in that same body, life gets weird. Discovering hints of a zombie mafia and signs that Ed the zombie hunter is still hanging around make life a bit too interesting.

I loved Diana Rowland's first book in this series, My Life as a White Trash Zombie, and have been anticipating EVEN WHITE TRASH ZOMBIES GET THE BLUES for months. I was a bit fearful of a let down as sometimes happens with second books but to my relief book two is at least as wonderful, and quite possibly even a smidge better than book one! At the core these are mystery stories but Angel's uncertain steps on her new forcibly-sober path (the zombie virus does not allow her to ingest harmful substances) are what give the books depth. It's not a doom-and-gloom, there-but-for- the-grace-of-God kind of series, though. Rowland writes with a great balance of humor and darker emotions and always keeps the action moving in the right direction. The mystery is superbly done but her handling of Angel's growth as a human being (well, 'humanish' these days) is what makes the books glow for me. I highly recommend the series to anyone who isn't too squeamish for frank discussion of brain as a comestible.
