Aaron Miller leads a normal life, and loves his Amish ways. He embraces his calling as a carpenter, and his responsibility to care for his younger siblings. However, Sarah Mast's appearance in Pleasant Valley and her intention of helping her aunt have set his world on end. He feels that babies should be born in a hospital where there are doctors and modern technology available should anything go wrong. He has nothing against Sarah, as she seems a very fine woman, but he certainly does not want his sister in her hands. Fortunately, things seem to be going his way as she has been forbidden by the court to deliver any babies until after a hearing. Little does he realize how much can happen in so short of time. Will circumstances have him changing his tune? Or has Aaron finally experienced a revelation?
Marta Perry writes another exemplary Amish romance. She takes us once again to Pleasant Valley where there are a lot of friendly and welcome faces, but for Sarah there are some unfriendly ones. Sarah Mast longs for children of her own, but settles for bringing other's babies into the world. For her there is no greater joy, and she will do anything to keep doing it. Aaron Miller wants to live a quiet life, but Sarah sparks something in him. The two of them are quite a complicated couple who have a lot of truths to learn.
I was awed by Sarah's grace, intrigued by Aaron's stubbornness, and quite charmed with Pleasant Valley. Ms. Perry explores quite an interesting topic with midwifery, and I was instantly besotted with the realistic story and the likable characters. SARAH'S GIFT spotlights the struggles of the Amish world as their ways and traditions are tested by the outside world. This is a truly enjoyable romance and an awesome addition to the Pleasant Valley saga.
