Skyler Quinn's stepson Mike was doing his best to get her a social life after his father's death. So he invited her to join him for the rodeo he was competing in hoping to introduce Skyler to some cowboys. But Skyler managed to find an interesting cowboy all by herself. Well actually, her camera caught him in action and, as it turned out, the real life Trace Wolf Track was even better in person. Coming off a marriage to an older man, who after several strokes had lessened his role on the ranch and become more reliant on Skyler, had increased her responsibilities tenfold. But as much as Skyler loved horses, she wasn't a fan of the business end of ranching. Her hope was that Mike would mature and want to give up being a rodeo or competition cowboy and take over running the ranch. That would allow Skyler to follow her dream of training horses and photographing them.

Trace caught more than just Skyler's camera's eye -- she was quite taken with his natural horse skills, sense of humor and the fact that he was real easy on the eyes. But he was Mike's friend and Skyler was immediately wary of their age difference. So attraction or not, she was so not going down that road. But fate had other ideas. Trace was intent on spending some time with her and so they made a deal. She celebrated his birthday his way with him and he helped her work with a difficult mustang. The arrangement suited them both since neither had any designs on any long term involvement. Trace needed a little extra time to recoup from a bad landing from his last ride and then he was once again on the road -- just the way he always liked it. But the more time he spent with Skyler, the more he found himself questioning his future. Could he possibly see himself settling down in just one place? Could there be a future with Skyler? Would he be able to show Skyler that love turns a blind eye on age? Skyler was just about as skittish as the horse she was trying to train but someone with a kind heart, soft touch and good soul just might make her willing to take the risk.

It's hard not to fall completely in love with the characters in Kathleen Eagle's stories. She has the ability to make them so real and vulnerable that you have to root for them. In COWBOY TAKE ME AWAY, the story is about taking risks both physical (as in rodeo sports) and emotional (as in finding love). Can't really say which is the more difficult, but Eagle makes finding love a real sport.

Book Summary

Her camera didn't lie.

When photographer Skyler Quinn first fixed her lens on gorgeous cowboy Trace Wolf Track, she liked what she saw but didn’t give it much thought. Until everywhere she went—the rodeo, the Double D Wild Horse Sanctuary— there he was, and the heat between them built to the boiling point.

As a widow struggling with debts and loyalties from a former life, Skyler needed to stay focused, especially if she wanted to achieve her dream of becoming a mother. Was Trace a fatal distraction, a mere summer fling? Or did this younger man—so deep, so passionate—hold the key to a future that would make all her dreams come true?
