Selyn is a Forgotten One, the daughter of a female warrior and a slave imprisoned within the Lemurian crystal mines. STARFIRE is the third full-length installment in Kate Douglas' DemonSlayer series. Douglas is best known for her erotic Wolf Tales series, and fans should know that this series fits in the more traditional paranormal romance genre. Not having read the first two books in this series, the first thing I noticed is the intricate storyline. Starfire takes places during a period of political upheaval when a small group is planning a revolution. There are lots of players in the story making it a bit confusing at times, and I think having read the other books first would have helped me follow along better early in the book. Once I became familiar with the characters though, I found the plot unique and intriguing. A political coup, sentient swords, and demon possession all make for an engaging narrative.

The characters in Starfire are well-developed and likable. Dawson and Selyn are strong but caring and a perfect match for each other. Their relationship builds gradually throughout the book, which despite the politics and violence is a very sweet love story at heart. And of course there are lots of the steamy sex scenes that Douglas is famous for. Douglas brings in many of the characters from previous novels in the series and even writes some scenes from their perspective further tempting me to go back and read all the installments. This intense and intricate series is one that deserves to be read and appreciated from the beginning.
