As Dhulyn Wolfshead and Parno Lionsmane await the judgment of the Mercenary Guild on false charges of murder and kidnapping, Long Ocean Nomads coerce them into a voyage to Mortaxa at the far end of the ocean. A Mortaxan Storm Witch has appeared and threatened the Nomads with the murderous weather she controls. The leader of Mortaxa has acceded to her demand that 'Paladyn' be brought to mediate between the people of the Crayx to gain control over their ancient trade routes.

Parno is welcomed by the Crayx-linked Long Ocean Nomads, as he is somehow able to share in their thoughts and the thoughts of the huge fish creatures to whom they are bonded. Dhulyn's Seer powers become increasingly erratic and troubling, as she feels herself more isolated from her partner, unable to share her worries without breaking a vow.

In this third Dhulyn and Parno adventure, Malan brings us to another side of the world she has created; where slavery is integral to daily life, the Marked live as sequestered slaves and the hand of the ancient Craids lies heavy on the land.

Although THE STORM WITCH draws heavily on past events, Violette Malan seamlessly weaves in information important to the plot, making this a book that can be read as a stand- alone novel, not only as part of the series.
