Pirates attacking a ship? No, it is not a Jack Sparrow tale of revelry and debauchery. RUNNING DARK seems to be a story ripped straight out of today's headlines; a case of art imitating life. Modern day pirates actually attack a cruise ship in order to rob the passengers. But this is no ordinary cruise ship and these are NOT the pirates that we've heard about on the news.

Biochemist Emma Caldridge finds herself in the middle of a possible terrorist threat while she is competing in a fifty-five mile marathon in South Africa. During the marathon, a complete stranger sticks her with an Epipen containing some unknown chemical. The substance triggers her fight or flight response, enabling her to complete the marathon in record time. Believing this to be a form of illegal steroid or performance enhancing drug, Emma has her blood analyzed to identify the possible chemical makeup of the substance. The lab analysis reveals that the substance is not a steroid or even an FDA approved chemical.

Emma's desire for answers lead her to a reunion with Darkview Security Company Owner, Edward Banner, and special agent Cameron Sumner. In Freveletti's previous novel, Running from the Devil, Banner, Sumner, and Emma staged a high profile rescue of airline passengers and hostages as they took down a major drug cartel in Columbia. The three have unknowingly been linked together once again in a madman's plot for revenge which may cost them their lives. As it becomes clear that the Epipen substance is a biochemical agent that may be sold on the black market to terrorist organizations, Emma and Cameron will find themselves on a fully booked cruise ship targeted for robbery by Somali Pirates and destined for disaster if they are too late.

Jamie Freveletti's novel is a maelstrom of corporate conspiracies, backdoor politics, international landscapes, and edge of your seat dilemmas that will leave you agog.

Book Summary

From internationally bestselling author Jamie Freveletti comes a riveting new thriller featuring brilliant biochemist Emma Caldridge, except this time there's nowhere to run. . . . Emma Caldridge is on mile thirty-six of the fifty-five-mile Comrades ultramarathon in South Africa when a roadside car bomb explodes. Dazed and disoriented, she regains consciousness after the blast to find a man standing over her with a white plastic injector. She feels the prick of a needle and the rush of medication under her skin, but before she can make a sound, the man is gone. Shaken by the event and unsure of what substance was pumped into her, Emma calls the one person who can help her figure things out: Edward Banner of the security company Darkview. But Banner has his hands full with another emergency: Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden have attacked a cruise ship, and Darkview has been hired to assist with the rescue. However, according to intelligence sources, the ship is carrying cargo far more valuable than wealthy passengers—something that could be a new weapon of unknown origin. Suspecting the weapon may be chemical in nature, Banner asks Emma to infiltrate the ship and use her professional expertise to identify it. Emma knows it's a risky job, one that she might not survive. But when she learns that special agent Cameron Sumner—a man who has saved her life in the past—is among the hostages, nothing will stop her from getting onboard, no matter what the cost.
