Border Patrol Agent Jeff Mitchell and Sam are dating, as much as their schedules allow. When Sam goes out into the far reaches of the desert to test the equipment, there are lags in their relationship.
The MP, Sergeant Roth, has two children to pick up so agrees to pick up her children while she is checked out at the hospital. When the gunman turns out to be a soldier that served in Afghanistan with Sgt. Roth, the investigation takes an unusual turn.
Once again Sam finds herself involved in some things that are none of her business and the danger to everyone is very real. Not only that, Jeff seems to be spending more time with the Roth children than with Sam.
Ms. Lovelace has been a longtime favorite of mine in the romance genre and her mystery series is a good way for her to expand her repertoire. The characters are interesting and quirky. The interaction of the Air Force and Border Patrol keeps the interest level high as well as the cool gadgets she talks about. The mysteries are well-plotted and not easily solved by the reader. If you like light-hearted banter and some unusual settings, this is a series that you will thoroughly enjoy.
