Jay thinks Kate is a trouble magnet. She is upset that he is a firefighter but she seems to attract trouble much more frequently than he does. Then Jay decides that he must go help his fellow firemen help put out a horrible fire in Florida. Kate can't help but worry.
Then Mona gets a horrible case of hives that she believes is due to the stress of working with Kate. The hives get so bad, Mona calls in her mother, a midwife and healer who brings one of her patients with her as she is due to have her baby soon. The problem with that is Mona can't work for Kate when she feels like she looks bad with the hives all over her face.
At first Kate's mother fills in but that doesn't work out at all. Then she calls a temp agency and they send a woman who seems to have problems of her own. At first Kate doesn't think much of it but when things start getting out of hand, Kate feels like she must do something.
Charlotte Hughes never fails to entertain. Her characters are quirky and never fail to fall into quite humorous situations even while not meaning to do so. Sometimes the situations are not funny until totally over. Generally I find myself laughing and then crying when I read these stories! That to me is a good book. I can't wait for the next Kate Holly book!
Book Summary
The mind is a terrible thing to examine...
Psychologist Kate Holly feels like she's ready for a strait-jacket. Her most recent patients include members of an anger management group who are directing their rage at her, and a man obsessed with overdosing on cologne after an unfortunate "sewage accident." How is she supposed to bring people like these down to earth when her own head remains stuck in the clouds over her firefighter ex-husband?
And when Kate's secretary is forced to take a personal leave of absence, she has no choice but to hire a temp. Abigail Davis is a competent worker with a friendly personality and--after altering her hairstyle and fashion sense to identically match Kate's--more issues than a lifetime subscription to Psychology Today...
