Jack wants custody of his daughter. Recently out of prison, he needs to show he is capable and ready to be a father. A fiancé just might do the trick to show that he is not only gainfully employed but in the position to offer a stable home to his daughter. Eleanor needs access to the Westfield mansion to find the proof of Banner's guilt. If Jack wants to claim her as his fiancé what harm would it do; a little white lie would apparently benefit both of them. This charming, sexy man cannot distract her. It doesn't count that she really likes the way he kisses.
Eleanor isn't a detective, but she has a lot of passion. Eleanor and Jack soon discover, though, that Banner hasn't made his fortune and prestige in the Westfield empire by a glamour-boy smile; he's a snake in the grass and more dangerous than either one of them could have imagined.
Starr Ambrose snagged me with her debut, LIE TO ME. Eleanor's commitment to prove her best friend's husband murdered her, Jack's desire to get to know his daughter and be the best dad he can, as well as the hot passion between Eleanor and Jack, kept me turning the pages. Steamy it is! This romantic suspense is sure to please.
Book Summary
Eleanor Coggins is certain Banner Westfield killed her best friend. When she sneaks into his home in search of proof, she finds Jack Payton, the black sheep of the family, instead. Recognizing that he has the power to expose her, jack uses the bungled break-in to his advantage and convinces Eleanor to pose as his fiancee.
The ruse allows them to get what they each want. Jack, recently released from prison, hopes a fiancee will make him appear more respectable and help him win custody of his daughter; Ellie will gain access to the Westfield mansion -- and Banner's files. Their powerful mutual attraction is a bonus from the playboy Jack's perspective, but a dangerous distraction as far as Ellie is concerned.
But the real danger is Banner. Ellie and Jack soon uncover clues that Banner's criminal activities are more sinister and far-reaching than they initially suspected. Banner will get away with murder again if they don't figure out how to stop him.
