Audrey Magill seems like a throwback to a past generation. She's a professional hat designer, of all things, leaving the reader to wonder who could make a living designing hats in this day and age. Audrey relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, to capitalize on the hat-wearing fashionistas looking to make an impression at the famed Kentucky Derby.

Audrey moves into an old house that doubles as her workshop and retail store. In an attempt to settle in, she goes antique shopping for some furniture and decorations. She spies a very old portrait of a Captain Silas Leyton Summerfield, and for some reason, she's drawn to him. The price tag of $1000 magically changes to $100, which is in her budget. When she takes Silas home with her, the fun begins.

Strange things start happening in Audrey's home. She soon realizes that Silas picked her that day in the shop to carry out a mission to save the soul of one of his wayward descendants.

The concept of READY & WILLING is clever. However, I found the book to get off to a slow start, requiring a bit of patience on this reader's part.

Book Summary

When Audrey Magill stumbles onto a portrait of a 19th-century riverboat captain, she thinks it’ll be perfect for her new hat shop. She doesn’t expect to meet a ghost who insists Audrey must help save the soul of his great-great-however-many-greats grandson. Now in addition to scrambling to open her shop in time for the Kentucky Derby, she must convince a complete stranger that he’s in danger of losing his soul— and that everlasting love does exist.
