Nathan goes AWOL, destroying his future, to spend two years behind bars only to discover upon his early release that his mother has died of cancer and his brother has just been murdered the night before. Nathan wants revenge. He wants the local drug lord Marseaux, who is responsible for his brother's legal problems, to pay, as well as the person who murdered him. The world believes that Nathan is the one who's died while Jamie was in prison. As Nathan investigates, he realizes that there is something much more terrifying to this drug investigation.

Terri Mitchell worked for the DEA until the night her partner was murdered and she was brutally attacked while investigating Marseaux. The moment Terri is released from the hospital, the DEA starts trying to pin her partner's murder on her. Terri leaves the DEA to work as a consultant for the New Orleans police department while secretly working for BAD (Bureau of American Defense). She's determined to discover what went down the night her partner was killed and relay any info about the Marseaux case to BAD. When Marseaux's henchmen turn up beaten, telling everyone that Nathan Drake isn't dead, Terri is interested, since she personally saw him with a bullet hole in his head. When she goes to the Drake house, she discovers a hooded man, whom she grows to trust after he thwarts several attempts on her life. Nathan realizes his activities have placed Terri in danger and although he feels unworthy of anyone's love, he falls in love with her. Discovering that he is indeed Nathan and that he traded places with his brother places Terri in an awkward position. When Marseaux's henchmen turn up dead, she has to wonder if she's lost her objectivity with this man she's come to love. If he is indeed a vigilante, she must bring him in.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is true to fantastic form in this story, and her collaboration with Dianna Love has resulted in great dialogue, a well-planned plot and sharp characters, which left this reader thoroughly engrossed page after page.
