Garnett Patton thought her life was over the day she discovered that her ex-husband kidnapped their little girl, Sophie. Nearly a year had passed, with no trace of where they could have gone. Now after sacrificing nearly everything she has to continue the investigation and find her daughter, the money is gone, the private investigator has quit, and it doesn't seem like the police are doing much to find her.

Detective Julian Cavenaugh is hoping that he can convince his postman father that the little girl he sees on his route is not on one of the "missing child" fliers that he delivers every week. The last time his very conscientious father thought he'd identified a missing child, he was wrong, and it nearly destroyed their lives. Now Julian has to do all he can to find the truth and keep his father from going to the authorities before they have proof, one way or the other.

Julian knows that only way to appease his father and know for sure that the little girl from his father's route isn't the missing girl from the flyer is to go to Alaska and see the little girl's mother for himself. After arriving he decides to approach Garnett and explain why he's there. His biggest concern is that she'll get her hopes up that the little girl his father saw is her daughter, and in the end be disappointed.

Garnett can't believe that they finally have a possible lead to find her daughter. She knows not to get her hopes up, but it's so hard not to when she's hoped and prayed for so long. So when Julian says he's going back to look into it further, there's no way she's going to let him leave her behind.

If Julian was unsure that this was actually Sophie, his doubts vanished when they got there and discovered that the family Sophie had been with had disappeared again, without a trace.

After using all of his connections, he tracks them to another town nearby, and another name. Sophie, aka Leah, has been found. But can Garnett put the past behind her and give her ex-husband a chance to stay out of prison? Can she learn to trust again and give Julian a chance to have a more permanent place in her life? Can she really learn to forgive and forget?

LOOKING FOR SOPHIE is a really easy read. Emotion runs high in this book, but the author conveys it in a manner that makes you feel it. The reader will wonder what they would do, how they would feel, and eventually if they would make the same decision faced with the ultimate question: Justice or the welfare of a child. All in all, I'd recommend it to anyone who loves happy endings and the journeys that get you there! Two thumbs up!!
