Dani has returned to her hometown of Venture, Georgia, to live with her twin sister Paris. She wants to use Paris' own special abilities to examine the dreams that, while essentially the same night after night, vary enough in some details to cause concern. Dani is not the only one to come to Venture. The Boston serial killer, who Bishop and company have been investigating, has taken up residence in Venture and wastes no time in making his presence known, as women go missing with disturbing speed.

Sheriff Marc Purcell was Dani's childhood friend, her first love and the reason she left Venture when her psychic gift revealed too much. And it's Dani who Marc visits when the first two bodies show up in unidentifiable pieces. He knows of her abilities, accepts what she cannot and wishes for the closeness of their youth. But before he can pursue the relationship of their past, he must work with Dani, convince her to trust in herself and the other members of the SCU, and find the monster who's setting the trap to take them all down. When the monster begins invading Dani's mind while she's awake, the quest for a killer takes on even greater urgency. Will the trap they're knowingly walking into be their salvation, or their downfall?

BLOOD DREAMS is Kay Hooper's latest in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit ongoing series -- and one of the best. Dani, her twin Paris and Marc Purcell, along with special agent Hollis Templeton and Haven operatives Gabriel and Roxanne Wolf are an eclectic group of heroes with unique and varied psychic gifts that make them important members of the SCU. Knowing that no one is safe in Hooper's stories makes BLOOD DREAMS difficult to put down, and even more difficult not to peek to the end of the book (don't do it!). The reader will struggle along with Dani to figure out the significance of her dreams, and the suspense of these characters willingly walking into a known trap, wondering at the horror they're going find, is Hooper at her very best. The frightening twist at the end is a great payoff for the reader and leaves us eagerly awaiting the next SCU novel!
