As Adrianna flees in her father's Packard, she hopes to find safety with her aunt in Mississippi. While passing through the small town of Lee's Point during a treacherous rainstorm, Adrianna collides with a pickup truck driven by Quinn Baxter. Adrianna agrees to pay for damages by playing the piano in Quinn's bar and caring for his crippled brother. Little does Adrianna know that she's risking her life living in Quinn's home with Lola, the housekeeper, who is scheming to marry Quinn. Adrianna and Quinn fall in love as they face life-threatening obstacles from both Richard and Lola.
By placing events in the 1930s, Dorothy Garlock breathes life into her story as she does an excellent job of depicting characters of that particular era, cleverly portraying both the heroes and villains.
