Nate McKendrick helps Shara Nolan deliver her baby and an irrevocable bond forms between them. Although Nate is the publisher of a Pennsylvania newspaper, his photojournalist's background urges him to accept unusual assignments for a national magazine. The widow of a firefighter, Shara fears Nate will take unnecessary chances as he chases danger. She doesn't believe he can make a commitment to the stable life she and her child need.

Nate teaches Shara how to grab the moment. But when he is caught in a life-threatening hurricane he is attempting to photograph, he realizes Shara has convinced him commitment can lead to everlasting love.
