Major A. C. Bannister -- known as Ace -- grew up on the mean streets of a Texas town. The army was his one chance to get out, and he took it. He worked his way up through the ranks and now, as ROTC head at a Texas college, he's admired by all the young men -- and adored by all the young women. Truly a "major attraction..."

Captain Meredith Marshall St. James has a West Point education, a General for a father and an attitude that doesn't meet with the Major's approval. Ace just doesn't hold with her belief in a "new" army, a "softer" army.

He soon learns two things:
