I really enjoy stories with an instant attraction between the man and woman and LEVELING THE FIELD captures that magic perfectly and more. LEVEING THE FIELD is definitely a story full of high emotions and complicated relationships, but Megan Erickson delivers a delicious raw sexuality that is intoxicating. The dynamic in Ethan and Lissa's relationship is fascinating. I love how Lissa gives as good as she gets and is not intimidated by Ethan and his often frosty attitude. Lissa's sassy banter is one of the things that attracts Ethan and breaks through his shell. With both of them having experience with losing a sibling and dealing with the emotional fallout that physical scarring can cause, I like the way that the author compares the very different ways in which both families have reacted to their individual losses. Although both Ethan and Lissa have a sibling as a source of emotional support, Lissa is doing a better job of channeling her grief into something positive by creating a scholarship honoring her late sister, whereas Ethan never quite got past his personal tragedy. Lissa's patience with Ethan as he works through his tangled feelings and her inner strength make her a great character. Having part of the story told from Ethan's perspective helps the reader understand him better and sympathize with him.

LEVELING THE FIELD is a poignant story about coping with loss, as well as a sensual and stimulating love story. This is a story that is both naughty and nice. After reading LEVELING THE FIELD without having read the previous books in the "Gamers" series, I look forward to going back and seeing what I missed. I look forward to reading Megan Erickson's next book.
