Jasper Adams, an ex-Army Ranger and member of EOD (Elite Operations Division) is in Whisky Ridge trying to figure out how to get close to Veronica Lane, because he needs her to find Cale Lane. Three members of EOD are dead and the clues lead to Lane. He can't believe his luck when she finds him in a bar and hires him to find Lane. Because they were in the Army together, Veronica is sure he can help her find out where her brother is. Almost immediately after hiring Jasper, she is run off the road and two thugs try to kidnap her. Instinct sends Jasper out to follow her and he is glad he did. He is able to rescue her and with another EOD agent, Gunner Ortez, pretending to be an FBI agent they try to get the arrested men to talk but an unexplained fire and explosion at the police station sends everyone rushing out of the building. A snipers bullet takes care of the would-be abductor's. The pro head shots have Jasper and Gunner shaking their heads knowing it could have been Cale.

Jasper lets Veronica know that the game has changed. Now he is also her bodyguard and won't be leaving her side anytime soon. If he could only tell her the truth, he'd be more than glad to take advantage of the situation, but he doesn't want to get physically involved when it's all based on lies. The truth to the matter is he is very much attracted to this warm intelligent girl, and sometimes the body has a mind of its own.

GUARDIAN RANGER is another fascinating offering of the Shadow Agents series. The interesting twists to the plotline will keep the readers enthralled all the way to the very much unforeseen ending. The side story of agents Gunner Ortez and Sydney Sloan adds a second bit of spice to the series and give readers hope for more books along this line by Cynthia Eden.
