But then Lexie begins having trouble keeping her dates alive. She keeps getting set up by her older sister Lucy, who believes that being unmarried is a sin. But with the dates dropping like flies, will Lexie ever get asked out again? Is it just a coincidence? Is she cursed like some of the townspeople believe? Or is a sly killer getting away with murder?

When the killer's attentions turn to Lexie herself, she doesn't intend to go down without a fight. With her brother-in-law Sheriff Otis Parnell, a good ol' boy without any real law enforcement skills, in charge of the case, Lexie knows she's gotta do something before she's next. With the help of hunky Detective Gabe Stevenson, on loan from the nearby Westonville Police Department, Lexie may just live to see another day. If only she hadn't been just saddled with her great-aunt Gladys. Aunt Gladys is the family black sheep, a former Vegas showgirl, with numerous marriages under her belt.

THE SAUCY LUCY MURDERS is a quirky mystery but a bit simplistic, imho. Personally, I had a hard time with how naïve Lexie is. Despite her small-town upbringing, she did live in California for a number of years and should have more real-world exposure. Aunt Gladys does provide some comic relief, but not enough to save this mystery for me. Readers who favor small-town quaintness should enjoy this rather cozy mystery from Ms. Reynders.
